Fall is here, and rogue Christmas decorations are already mingling in with Halloween costumes. These foods will help keep you from developing that familiar fall and winter malaise.
- Fatty fish – the omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D will keep your brain happy. Our body produces vitamin D in sunlight, so in winter months be sure to supplement.
- Fresh fruit – Especially citrus; vitamin C will keep you healthy and boost iron absorption to prevent anemia.
- Leafy green veggies – they are high in folate – a B vitamin, which helps to produce serotonin and ward off depression.
- Mushrooms – Very high in vitamin D and B vitamins riboflavin and niacin.
- Nuts – High in magnesium and tryptophan, known to fight fatigue and depression, respectively.
- Dark chocolate – Helps to boost production of serotonin and relieve stress.
- Garlic – Helps to lower blood pressure, which can make you feel less stressed.
- Bananas – Loaded with nutrients, and a perfect combo of protein, fiber and carbs make these the perfect, energy-boosting snack.
