We have all, at one time or another, experienced the discomfort of inflammation. Inflammation is a protective mechanism triggered in our body to alert us to the fact that we have some kind of physical problem. When we injure ourselves, even a small cut or scrape will cause our body to set up a process that is an amazing attempt at healing itself. In fact even a sore throat is a sign of inflammation and is an indication of possible tonsillitis.
However, in certain autoimmune diseases such as arthritis, the fact is that the presence of inflammation is actually damaging. And recent studies indicate that cannabis contains anti-inflammatory properties that can assist with such diseases.
Listed below are some facts about cannabis and inflammation:
We will now examine some facts that link cannabis with the healing of certain inflammatory diseases:
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a condition in which areas of the gastrointestinal system becomes chronically inflamed.
Many patients are reporting significant relief as a result of treating the disease with cannabis. Patients with IBD suffer from vomiting and diarrhea as a result of the disease, which can cause malnutrition and consequent weight loss. Some patients used medical cannabis for three months to treat the disease. These report that they have gained weight and are able to work and function in society once again without pain and depression.
It is reported that arthritis is the number one cause of disability in the United States, with osteoarthritis being the most common type. Osteoarthritis is basically a sign of ageing and occurs when cartilage wears away affecting the knees, hips, hands, lower back and neck. There is no cure for this painful inflammatory disease. However, when treated with cannabis, patients claim they have enjoyed a reduction in swelling and inflammation and much relief of the pain. Organic hemp powder is an excellent way of reducing joint pain.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful inflammatory condition to the wrist and hands that comes as a result of swelling caused by repetitive hand movements such as computer work and knitting. Since cannabis has been known to be an effective treatment for nerve pain and inflammation, patients report that they are experiencing better relief of pain in their hands from cannabis than with other types of medication.
In conclusion, evidence has shown that cannabis, if used responsibly, can become a source of healing and pain relief for those who are suffering from inflammation and a variety of debilitating diseases.
